Tree Treasure No. 20: Our First Alaska Adventure

In 2013, Dave and I took our first cruise to Alaska. Just the two of us. And from the moment we stepped off the ship, we were hooked.

Ketchikan quickly became one of our favorite ports. Colorful buildings and that feeling of being somewhere completely different from everyday life.

Happy couple visiting Ketchikan, Alaska while on an Alaskan cruise.

One of the highlights of that trip was an excursion on the Deadliest Catch boat. If you remember the show, it followed real-life crab fishermen braving rough seas and dangerous conditions in the Bering Sea. Watching it on TV was intense enough. Standing on that boat made it all feel very real.

This ornament brings back so many Alaskan memories for me. Time alone with Dave. A favorite cruise destination. That sense of adventure that comes from saying yes to something new. It also marks the beginning of what would become a deep love for Alaska for us.

Every time I hang this ornament, I am reminded of how special it is to carve out time just for us and how some trips quietly become part of who you are. Alaska did that for us.

If you enjoy nostalgic holiday stories, I’m also sharing my Christmas memories in a new series called Christmas Stories Throughout the Years.
