Tree Treasure No. 18: One Theme Song and a Trip Back to Childhood

Laverne & Shirley musical Christmas ornament

It takes just a few bars of the Laverne and Shirley theme song and I am instantly transported back to ten year old Cath.

Sitting on the floor in front of our big box television with rabbit ears on top, watching the newest episode live because there was no option to record. If you missed it, you missed it. No rewinds. No binge watching. Just one shot each week.

That little bit of music is powerful.

This ornament represents so much more than just one show. It stands for all the childhood shows Dave and I loved.

The Brady Bunch. Happy Days. And so many others from a time when shows had catchy, unforgettable theme songs that pulled you in and told a story before a single line of dialogue was spoken.

Back then, families gathered around the TV at a set time. Theme songs mattered. They signaled comfort, routine, and shared moments. You heard the music and knew exactly where you belonged for the next thirty minutes.

This ornament takes me back to that feeling.
Simple nights.
Familiar songs.
And the magic of growing up when television brought everyone together in the same room.

If you enjoy nostalgic holiday stories, I’m also sharing my Christmas memories in a new series called Christmas Stories Throughout the Years.
